Cincinnatus to Launch Mobile App Mapping 3D Artwork
Reprinted from Sydney Hawkins, WKRC on Thursday, June 12, 2025 – Members with the Cincinnatus Association are planning to launch a mobile app that maps out 3D artwork across downtown Cincinnati. The app, ‘3D Art in the Core’, is projected to launch in April 2026. Members with the Cincinnatus Association are planning to launch a mobile app that maps out 3D artwork across downtown Cincinnati. It will include more than 130 pieces of three-dimensional artwork, their locations and background information about each piece. The app will focus on the 45202 zip code, which is downtown Cincinnati near the Ohio River. John Simpkinson, a member with the association, said the goal is share history with people who migrate to the downtown area. “They don’t know anything about their neighborhood,” Simpkinson explained. “They don’t know anything about what to go see. These are people who are moving from Mariemont, or moving from somewhere else, or just entrepreneurs. We’re providing the data and the tools for tour guides.” The artwork will include statues, gazebos, sculptures and even bridges like the Purple People Bridge. Simpkinson said he wants to attract new people to the downtown area to appreciate the 3D artwork. “The people who are out exercising, they want a different route,” he explained. “They want to go see something. Another one is the elderly or the bucket list people. So, we have a passport where you can keep track of you going around to different neighborhoods. There are people who are tourists.” As members continue to collect data, they’re asking other art-lovers and history buffs who are familiar with 3D artwork in the downtown area to reach out to them to share that information in 300 words or less, along with the location of the sculpture.
